“You shall love the Lord your God… You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
“Do not think that love in order to be genuine has to be extraordinary. What we need is to love without getting tired.” Said Mother Teresa. We asked the Lord how we could love Him more …
We realized that far too many times, we think of love as something that must be extraordinary, something heroic and cinematic just like what the saints did: dying as a martyr, going to a faraway land as a missionary, fasting often and the like. We forget that more often, love is an everyday, ordinary thing. Waking up early to cook for the family, working hard to be able to send the children to school, trying to be patient with an irritating officemate, so on that day.
For many of us who are called to an ordinary and sometimes seemingly humdrum existence, we have to realize that loving Jesus is always extraordinary whatever everyday form it might take. Because everything we do, as long as it is done in the spirit of love, is special to Him and comes from Him who is Love.
Love and do what you like.
